New Awards in 2022
2022 saw the launch of two new awards for ISEE. The first, the LMIC Best Abstract Award, is an award for the best abstract from researchers from low and medium-income countries submitted for the ISEE annual conference. 4 awards are given each year, one for each of the following chapters: Africa, Asia and Western Pacific, Eastern Mediterranean, and Latin America and the Caribbean. Awardees must be first author of a submitted abstract for the annual conference, and must be more then 5 years of having completed their terminal degree.
The 2022 Award Winners were: Aqiel Dalvie, University of Cape Town, “The Association Between Urinary Concentrations of Organophosphate Metabolites and Asthma-Related Outcomes at 12-Month Follow-Up Among Children from Informal Settlements in Western Cape, South Africa”; Mohammad Miri, Sabzevar University of Medical Science, “Determinants of Carbon Load in Airway Macrophages in Pregnant Women”; Siddartha Mandal, Center for Chronic Disease Control, “Assessing Daily PM2.5 at Every Square Kilometer of India over 2008-2020 Using a Machine Learning Framework”; and Laura Andrea Rodriguez-Villamizar, Universidad Industrial de Santander, “Long-term Exposure to PM2.5 and Avoidable Mortality in Colombia 2014-2019”.
The Dan Wartenberg Memorial Travel Award was launched in 2022 to support participation in the ISEE Annual Conference by individuals with projects involving communities and stakeholders in grappling with environmental or occupational health issues, or individuals with environmental justice projects including participatory elements. The 2022 cohort included: Amira Aker, Universite Laval; Adnan Al-Hindi, University of Gaza; Andrew Floeder, University of Minnesota; Kaleigh Hinton, Rutgers, The University of New Jersey; Susan Hoffman, Emory University; Elizabeth Kamai, University of Southern California; Katherina Lubina, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey; Adetoun Mustapha, Nigerian Institute of Medical Research; and Alix Pahaut, University of Haifa.
