Call for Applications: Co-Editor-in-Chief, Environmental Epidemiology

The International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE) and Wolters Kluwer announce a search for co-Editor-in-Chief (or, alternatively, one or two associate editors) for ENVIRONMENTAL EPIDEMIOLOGY, an open access journal launched in 2017. ENVIRONMENTAL EPIDEMIOLOGY is an official journal of ISEE. It has seen a steady rise in the number of submitted manuscripts. This is the motivation for recruiting additional editor(s). As a fully open access journal, ENVIRONMENTAL EPIDEMIOLOGY provides a global forum for the rapid publication of environmental epidemiology research in a fully open access, online environment. Fully peer reviewed the journal supports the global community of environmental epidemiology experts by providing a venue for articles that further the understanding of all aspects of the field.

The co-Editor-in-Chief (or associate editor(s)) will provide joint leadership of a high quality scientific journal that serves the needs of a global environmental epidemiology community. The journal publisher (Wolters Kluwer) provides technical support and appropriate training on the submission system and production process. Annual financial support is provided.

Responsibilities of the co-Editor-in-Chief (or associate editor(s))
  1. Decide whether submitted manuscripts are of high enough quality to subject to peer review
  2. In case of rejection without peer review, provide a brief rationale for rejection to the authors
  3. Invite experts to review the manuscripts that are of high enough quality (have passed stage 1)
  4. Manage peer review to ensure timely review of submitted manuscripts

  6. Encourage features and content that serve the interests of the environmental epidemiology community and address the challenges facing the field
  7. Maintain good relations with associated professional societies and specifically the ISEE
  8. Closely coordinate with the editor-in-chief, prof. Bert Brunekreef
